Orchid 2 Spa: A Dreamlike Oasis of Reflection and Light

Designers Xu Zhichao, Wang Dan, and Yan Qing Transform Space Limitations into Unique Strengths

The inspiration for Orchid 2 Spa came from the designers' desire to solve the issues presented by the spa's small size and narrow corridors. Drawing from the reflective properties of mirrors and water, the team used mirrored stainless steel and common mirror materials to expand the space visually and enhance the lighting. This innovative approach not only resolved the spatial issues but also created a unique, dreamlike ambiance for the spa's patrons.

One of the unique features of the spa is a teardrop-shaped electroplated metal art installation. Measuring 400mm in height, 1100mm in length, and 500mm in width, this reflective piece enriches the space and adds a touch of artistry to the otherwise simple front office area. The installation's high reflectivity complements the mirrored stainless steel on the ceiling, contributing to the overall unity of the space.

Despite the project's budget constraints, the designers managed to create a visually stunning and functional space. They carefully selected materials to achieve their design vision while staying within budget. For instance, they used Terrazzo stone in the public area and more affordable ceramic tile with a similar pattern and texture in the private rooms and bathrooms.

The designers also focused on creating a clean and comfortable environment, recognizing that cleanliness is a crucial aspect of any spa experience. They achieved this by using linear lights instead of traditional spotlights or downlights, creating a more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly space.

Orchid 2 Spa is a shining example of how innovative design can transform a space's limitations into unique strengths. The designers' creative use of reflection and light has not only solved the spa's spatial issues but also created a unique, dreamlike environment that has earned them international recognition.
